First impressions will have a lasting effect on your new co-workers, so make sure you arrive on time, as discussed with your line manager and agreed in your job offer. The company should have provided you with joining instructions - if they haven't, then make a point of calling them a couple of days before you are due to start to check where are are required to go, who you are to ask for, what you should bring with you (if anything). For an office based job, we would recommend that you turn up with a pen as a minimum. Working in a factory environment, turn up with the necessary safety gear - overalls, safety footware, glasses, hi-vis jacket, if you have them, but in any event, make sure to dress appropriately. Jeans and t-shirt is not right for an office, unless this has been agreed with the company beforehand.

Your co-workers will be scrutinising and evaluating you as well as you are evaluating them, and how you carry yourself and respond to others is important during your first weeks on the job, as it will determine how they react and support you later on. Being prepared, well rested, and sincere will take you far. However, you must set short-term goals to be successful. Know what you want to accomplish and how you are going to do it before you arrive.
